Behavior Management Linky Party and Freebie!

Ms. T at Journey of a Substitute Teacher is hosting a behavior management linky party! Ahhh, behavior management...the theme of my life. I spend half of my planning period every day checking behavior charts, and the rest of my day trying to manage many different lovely behaviors :) Actually, I really like behavior so this is a great linky party for me to be participating in!
I wanted to share a resource I got in an online graduate class (I'm currently working on a certification in Moderate to Severe Disabilities). DISCLAIMER: I did NOT create this resource, I have simply found it helpful and am sharing. This is a Functional Behavior Assessment form that can be used to track challenging behaviors throughout the day. Most of the time, FBAs are very detailed and require a day to completely record student behavior. Ummm, WHO HAS TIME FOR THAT??? This is a resource I have been able to use because it is quick and easy. Every time the student demonstrates a behavior of concern, mark this chart with a number. First, you put the number under the behavior column in whatever area it belongs. Then, put the number in the correct perceived function column. Finally, put the number under the correct consequence column. Add notes as necessary to help you remember what happened. I know that is confusing, but I've included a few sample numbers so you can see what I'm talking about.
I've added this file to Google Docs as a Word document so that you can change the setting, behaviors, etc. It looks really weird in Google Docs, but if you download the original it SHOULD work just fine. If not, please comment on this post and I'll be glad to send you the original. Please feel free to use this resource, but don't claim it as your own :) Thanks and enjoy :)

12 Fun Facts and Stuff

Karlie Johnson at We are ALL Special tagged me in a post...thanks Karlie! I love to find bloggers who teach special ed...we are so rare :)

So here are the rules:

1. You must post the rules.
2. Post 12 fun facts about yourself on the blog post.
3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and then create 12 new questions for the people you tagged.
4. Tag 12 people and link them on your post (**Not gonna lie, I only tagged 8**).
5. Let them know you've tagged them!

Fun Facts About Me
1. I can't eat anything with a bone in it. Bones totally gross me out AND remind me that what I am eating was once alive. I know I'm weird, don't worry.
2. I have a brother with Autism and a brother with Ankylosing Spondylitis. Both of these disorders have the same awareness month: April!
3. Although I am a big Autism advocate, I do not care for Autism Speaks. I don't believe that Autism needs a "cure" and will go to battle with anyone who says it does.
4. I have lots of pillows on my bed and none of the pillow cases ever match my sheets. I like it that way!
5. My dog has dreams every night in which he weirdly barks in his sleep. It's happening again right now :)
6. I worked at Kohl's in college and I loved it! I truly feel that my position at Kohl's helped me become a better leader for the people that work in my classroom.
7. I am totally in love with Pinterest! It drives me crazy when people call it "Pin Interest".
8. I adore candles, particularly Yankee Candles or the ones from Bath and Body Works.
9. I live over top of a business on Main Street. It is so fun to be downtown!
10. I always fall in love with books that become hits. Cases in point: The Hunger Games, The Twilight Saga, and Harry Potter.
11. I have extremely strong political views but I don't like to talk about them. The confrontation makes me nervous.
12. I absolutely love special education.

  1. Where do you live/where are you from? I live in Danville, KY and I'm from Danville, KY too :)
  2. What is your best teaching advice? My best teaching advice comes in the form of a quote I pinned on Pinterest. Here it is:

  3. If you could only keep one thing that was in your classroom what would it be? That's hard! I guess I'd have to say the SMARTBoard....but that would also require the computer and projector!
  4. What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend? Blog! Well, blog and relax.
  5. How long have you been teaching? A year and a half, but I swear it already feels like I've been doing it forever (in a good way)!
  6. What is your favorite memory? Probably my wedding! Although I'm not married anymore I still think it was one of the best and most beautiful days of my life. I just wish it had been with someone who stuck around forever.
  7. What is your favorite store?  I really love me some Kohl's.
  8. What do you typically wear to school? I dress up twice a week, wear corduroys and something a little more casual once a week, and wear jeans and a school shirt twice a week.
  9. What is your favorite activity to do with your kids? I love to cook with them! Talk about chaotic, but they love it.
  10. What is your favorite book? Besides all the fad ones, I'd have to say Fantastic Mr. Fox or The Help.
  11. Do you have a Pinterest? YES! Follow me HERE! :)
  12. What is your favorite restaurant? PF Chang's. I absolutely love that place.

So Many Things!!!

FIRST: OK, I spent an AWESOME day yesterday at a blogger meet up in Cincinnati! Abby and Michelle organized a lunch for us at the Cheesecake Factory (yum!) and we had 50 blogging teachers there!!! It was so much fun. I totally felt like I was waiting in line to meet a character and Disney World when I was waiting to thank Abby at the end...I love her stuff and I feel like she's famous ;-) Katie and I rode up together and she's got some pictures from the afternoon...hop over to her blog and check them out! I'd like to thank her, too, for linking to my blog...thanks Katie! :)

SECOND: About a month ago, Rachel gave me the Versatile Blogger Award...thanks Rachel! She's another special ed teacher who blogs, so please go check her out for some great ideas at:

Now, I'm supposed to tell you seven random things about myself. Here goes...
1. I have to have a McDonald's Dr. Pepper every morning. I know this is HORRIBLE for me, but I just can't help it! I think if I could have a Dr. Pepper IV hooked up to me at all times I would do it.
2. I am a cat lover, but I'm not so jazzed about dogs...except when it comes to bulldogs and poodles. I love poodles for their dispositions and the fact that they don't shed. I love bulldogs for their funny faces, tons of wrinkles, and fantastic personalities. Ironically, I don't have a cat at this point.
3. I'm totally hooked on HBO shows via Netflix. I don't have cable, let alone HBO, but I love all of their shows and constantly have something of there's out through Netflix. My two favorites so far are Big Love and True Blood.
4. I feel panicky when I'm without my iPhone. I am totally addicted and will never be without an iPhone again.
5. I would eat appetizers for every meal, every day if this wasn't like the WORST caloric thing I could possibly do. I'm a huge fan of cream cheesey dips...yum.
6. I love bumper stickers. I have 5 on my car and would seriously have 30 if I could.
7. I really want to be a crafty person, but just can't seem to do it. What wouldn't I give to be able to whip up cute wreaths all the time???

That was fun! I can't wait to give this award to some other newer bloggers. I'll make sure to let you know who I gave it to when I do!

THIRD: I've created a fun little Valentine's Day Go Fish game with some contractions we're working on. This is part one and if it goes well I'll also post part two. Some things go over well and some just don't, so we'll see. The rules are traditional Go Fish rules, except kiddos match the phrase to the contraction (i.e. were not to weren't). Hope you like it!

I know that's a blurry picture, but I'm new at putting these little shots together! OK, that was a lot of stuff. Hope you've had a good weekend and please keep your fingers crossed that we'll get a SNOW DAY  very soon... I need it! :)
